Creating PowerBI Dashboards

How to create PowerBI dashboards from exported emissions data

How can I visualise the results of an emissions assessment?

Sumday provides a few options to visualise the results of an assessment. These include:

  • Native dashboards within the Assessments section of the product, under the Dashboard tab.
  • Sumday has partnered with Spotlight - a trusted Xero app partner that allows you to visualise your data in a number of ways. Spotlight Sustain specifically works with data exported from Sumday to visualise your emissions results.
  • Sumday has made it easy to visualise your emissions results in PowerBI with downloadable templates.

How do I download the PowerBI Dashboard Template?

Go to the Academy section of the product, then under Resources, click Report Templates. Within here you can download the PowerBI Carbon General Ledger Report Dashboard Template.

How do I find the file path of my exports?

To find the file path, you can open the csv, go to File, then Info, then Copy Local Path. Do not use the Copy Path option as this may provide a web-based file path.

How do I export emissions data from Sumday for reporting?

You can export data from a number of areas in Sumday. Exports can be formatted, which looks best in Excel or they can be unformatted which don’t look as good in Excel, but they’re great to use for PowerBI or other visualisation tools.

The Carbon General Ledger Report can be exported by going to the Reports section of the product, click Export in the top right and export to Excel unformatted.

Open the template using PowerBI, and enter the file path of the export you saved locally when prompted, then wait approximately 10 seconds for the dashboard to populate the visuals. You’re free to edit these and add new visuals to suit your needs.
