How to use the Sumday Calculated emission factors

The Sumday Calculated dataset is a special database in Sumday that gives you extra flexibility when inputting data outside of industry or supplier emission factors.

This dataset is designed to support:

  • Direct entry of supplier-provided CO₂e values

  • Tracking zero-emission activities such as walking, cycling or renewable electricity

  • Custom scenarios that allow traceability in audits and reporting

What emission factors are in the Sumday Calculated dataset?

The dataset includes several types of emission factors:

 1. Direct CO₂/CO₂e Entry Factors (1:1 conversion)

  • Custom factors labelled “Direct CO₂/CO₂e Entry” exist across multiple GHG categories.

  • Each has a conversion of 1 unit = 1 kg CO₂e.

  • This lets you enter emissions directly into Sumday, with no need for extra calculations.

  • Available across categories such as Business Travel, Purchased Goods & Services, Waste, Transportation, Investments, Use of Sold Products, and more.

2. Zero Emission Electricity Factors

  • Zero Emission Electricity (Scope 2): Available for many countries, allowing you to reflect renewable or low-carbon power purchases with an emission factor of 0.0000 kg CO₂e/kWh.

  • Walking & Bicycle (Scope 3): Employee commuting and business travel emission factors with 0 kg CO₂e/km.

  • Useful for tracking and reporting low-carbon behaviours without excluding the activity altogether.

3. Renewable Electricity Supply Factors

  • Found in Scope 3 (Fuel and Energy Related Activities).

  • Includes “Electricity Supply – Renewables” factors for multiple countries.

  • These are set to 0.0000 kg CO₂e/kWh, representing renewable electricity sources.

4. Custom GHG Gas Entries

  • Direct entry factors for Methane (CH₄) and Nitrous Oxide (N₂O) are also available.

  • These have fixed conversion factors aligned to their Global Warming Potential (GWP):

    • CH₄: 28.0000 kg CO₂e per kg

    • N₂O: 265.0000 kg CO₂e per kg

  • Enables precise recording of non-CO₂ greenhouse gas emissions when specific data is available.

How use the Sumday Calculated emission factors

  1. Enable the dataset for use in your assessment

  • Go to your Emission Assessment Settings (icon with 3 lines and 3 circles in the top right of the assessment).

  • Add Sumday Calculated to your Scope 3 activity datasets and Save changes.

  1. Enter data using custom factors

  • In the Accounting tab, locate the relevant transaction.

  • Switch to an Activity-based calculation.

  • Choose Sumday Calculated and select the relevant factor (e.g., Direct CO₂/CO₂e Entry, Walking, Zero Emission Electricity).

  • Enter your data in the Quantity field.

  1. Keep records clear

  • (Optional but recommended) Add a note to the entry (e.g., “Supplier provided footprint” or “Zero emission renewable electricity contract”) to support audits and transparency.

🔎 Tip: You can view all available Sumday Calculated factors by clicking the EF Database Table (spreadsheet icon, top right in Sumday) and searching for Sumday Calculated.
