Using Tracking Categories

Tracking Categories empower you to integrate carbon accounting into your everyday business operations, turning it into a routine practice rather than a once-a-year exercise.

With Tracking Categories, You Can…

  1. Customize Groupings and Sub-Categories: Track emissions by categories that matter most to your business—whether it’s by location, department, project, cost code, or other dimensions unique to you.
  2. Assign Transactions Easily: Tag transactions with these categories as you reconcile, creating more relevant, granular reporting.
  3. Gain Actionable Insights: Move towards monthly or quarterly reporting and provide stakeholders with timely, actionable insights that support proactive decision-making.

Key Steps

  1. Go to "Categories."

  2. Select "Create New Tracking Category" to set up a primary category group.

  3. Within each group, click "Add Option" to create sub-categories. You can delete if needed, or archive options that are no longer relevant, with the option to restore archived items when necessary.

  4. Once your categories are set, return to the Carbon Ledger and assign transactions to the relevant categories as you reconcile.

  5. When your assessment is complete, filter reports by tracking categories to extract insights that align with your business goals and make a real impact.
