ⓘ This article is for all users of Sumday
The Import Confirmation page is the final step in the data import process before transactions are added to the Carbon Ledger, where you can begin the carbon bookkeeping. At this step, you can review a summary of the data being imported and decide how each account is treated.
Summary Information
The Import Confirmation screen displays:
-
Import name – a name is required before completing the import
-
Date range of the import
-
Total number of transactions
-
Number of suppliers identified in the import
-
List of general ledger accounts and the number of transactions per account
In this screen you can choose to:
-
Summarise transactions into monthly totals for selected accounts
-
Exclude selected accounts from the carbon accounting process
Import Monthly Totals Only
This option summarises all transactions in a selected account into one entry per month, rather than importing individual transactions.
Use cases:
-
Accounts with a high volume of similar or low-impact transactions (e.g. bank fees)
-
Accounts with potentially sensitive data where detailed import is not required
Considerations:
-
Reduces the number of entries to reconcile in the Carbon Ledger
-
Lowers visibility into transaction-level detail for that account
Reconcile as excluded
Not all financial accounts are relevant to carbon accounting. Typically need the transactions from 'Expense' type financial accounts, as well as any capital goods purchased/asset additions throughout the reporting period (e.g. new vehicle or equipment purchases). This option allows you to exclude entire accounts from the emissions reconciliation process.
What it does:
-
Marks selected accounts and their transactions as excluded from carbon accounting
-
Automatically places these transactions in the Reconciled tab of the Carbon Ledger
-
Adds an “Excluded” label in the Emission Source column
Typical exclusions include:
-
Bank accounts
-
Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable
-
Income and revenue accounts (e.g. Sales)
-
VAT/GST payment accounts
-
Prepayment accounts
-
Salaries and wages
-
Superannuation or pension payments
-
Leave and provision accounts
If you miss excluding an account at this stage, you can still exclude it later within the Carbon Ledger. However, selecting exclusions during import can streamline the process.
Tip: If you're excluding an account, it can be helpful to also select Import Monthly Totals Only, so only a single monthly entry is imported rather than every transaction.
Pre-Recognised Exclusions
Sumday automatically identifies certain accounts as commonly excluded, such as GST and Depreciation. These are suggested for:
-
Import as Monthly Totals Only
-
Reconcile as Excluded
This can help pre-reconcile 20–40% of transactions before they reach the Carbon Ledger.
Completing the Import
Once you have reviewed your selections and named the import, click Continue. All transactions will then be imported and made available in the Carbon Ledger for reconciliation.
